Darkman Coming to Comics Sam Raimi's cult classic to hit shelves in '06. Guest-starring Ash?
February 8, 2006 - Dynamite Entertainment announced today its agreement with Universal Studios Consumer Products Group to produce comics based on Darkman. Definitive launch dates and marketing efforts for the new comic series will be announced in the coming weeks.
"Darkman will find a home with Dynamite and in the comic pages in 2006," commented Dynamite Spokesperson J. Allen. "This character will make for a perfect comic, he's one of the most complex and unique superheroes around, and we plan to launch him in a most special way!"
A special launch is planned for the new comic series as Darkman debuts in a cross-over with another famous character introduced by Sam Raimi. All of this from the writing team of Kurt Busiek and Roger Stern!
"Darkman's special launch will have fans talking for years to come," concluded Allen.

"Dynamite Entertainment has announced that it has landed the license to produce comics based on Universal Studios' Darkman.
The character will debut in a crossover with either Xena or Army of Darkness -- two other Universal properties that Sam Raimi has been connected to. Kurt Busiek and Roger Stern are said to be attached as writers. Though no specific date has been announced, the character is set to reappear in comics later in 2006.
The character debuted in the 1990 film Darkman, directed by Sam Raimi and starring Liam Neeson. Neeson played Peyton Westlake, a scientist who was horribly scarred after mobsters attacked him in his lab. Doctors disconnected the scientist's nerve endings, granting him somewhat enhanced strength and a remarkable -- though frieghtening -- ability to ignore pain, even as his flesh is burning. Westlake designed synthetic skin that allowed him to appear like his old self or to imitate others, but it would dissolve under the sunlight in an hour, leading to much drama. As Darkman, he often wore bandages over his face and a trenchcoat -- yes, years before Batman's Hush made a new vogue of the look."

I cannot see how a Xena crossover would work at all.
I was actually hoping for a Spiderman crossover, but hey, Army of Darkness will do

"Sam Raimi's Darkman is an oddly appealing and unique "hero;" a mentally and physically scarred "mad" scientist who is immune to most forms of pain, thanks to destroyed nerve endings resulting from the same accident which left him scarred and mentally unbalanced. With the aid of synthetic skin and other tricks, Darkman hunts down the criminals who destroyed his lab and left him in his wretched state. The movie enjoys a solid cult-following (although it often garnered mediocre reviews outside of said following), and was followed up by two made-for-video sequels created by a different cast and crew.
Intending to bank on the built-in fanbase and use the unusual nature of the character to appeal to the rest of the industry, Dynamite Entertainment has teamed up with Universal Studios Consumer Products Group to create a new Darkman comic title written Kurt Busiek and Roger Stern. The debut storyline is rumored to include another popular Sam Raimi character-although no names have been dropped yet, Ash is of course widely speculated.
I think Darkman is an excellent choice for a new comic book line (am I making things up, or did he have a few brief Marvel special runs at some point?) as he fits the general comic world feel very well. Of course, I count myself as a solid member of the movie's cult following, so my opinion may be slightly biased. At any rate, if I remember to look it up by the time it comes out, I'll certainly give it a try."

That would be cool! I'd love to see Darkman as a comic book hero. It seems natural for him!
His coat is black, not blue. XP

It's probably going to be pretty successful, since they got Kurt Busiek on board.
Darkman and Ash together will be AWESOME!
