Hi, all. Glad to be here. I was delightfully shocked to find a fansite devoted to one of the best action/scifi/hero flicks of all time and its sequels. So, speaking of sequels, I thought I'd steal an idea from a SuperheroHype thread I'd seen before.
Here's the deal. It's the early ninties and you are (somehow) in charge of making the sequel to Darkman. Not that the sequels made were all that bad, but hypothetically, what would you have made different? Perhaps an action sequence comes to mind? A new plot developement? Anything you want. I figured it would be interesting to hear different fans' takes on what could have been.

If I had written the Sequel The fovus would be on Darkman(Liam Neeson Repriseing roll) discovering hat within the scarred shell of the "Monster" he says he has become...there still breathes a man...a new man

I can't seem to remember Darkman 2 and it's take on Westlake's new state of mind (it's been a while since I've seen it). But that's definitely something that would be good for the moral of the story. After all the struggling, to come full circle and still be the good guy, but for a completely different reason. To use that "monster" for good (which, either way, I suppose he does). As it's been mentioned on the board before, maybe Durant shouldn't have returned. A new villain -- even with possible ties to Durant -- would've worked just as well. But no matter who, for the story-telling part, the villain should've had something in him that directly challenged Darkman's sanity. Huh...I can't even remember who's in number 2! I definitely need to go rent both sequels. Not to mention actually BUY the DVD version of the original (shame on me, I've only a crappy VHS). But that sneaking suspicion/hope for a Special Edition keeps holding me back.

I hated The Sequels
I totally Agree NO DURANT
While I enjoyed Drake Repriseing the Roll No Durant and I was Hopeing he'd move away from Gansters and fight someone else.
Set right after one
I figure the first part of the movie he isnt bothering with the skin anymore and living on the streets, a woman reporter. a cop. a crime lab tech i fact stumbles on his equipment. and tries operating it but can't guess the code and after investgating the strack death and learning more about what the equipment does from other scientists, (Surely the work wasnt a big secret program nd was talked about in the science community)
she searches for darkman and finds a sinister plot within the police to use peytons stuff for sinister things..
she finds him, tells him and so on and so forth

I'm not sure how I would've written the sequel, but I think having the original Marvel comic series adapted into the sequel would've been awesome, maybe even better than the original movie. It would've been cool for Randall Boyll's original novels to get adapted too.

I'd like to see Darkman face more than gangsters. He needs a neat super-villain.

I agree. Someone who can really pose a threat to him and has abilities that would be challenging for Darkman to overcome.

I would have brought Durant back in 2...but he would be horribly disfigured from the helicopter explosion. He would spend all his time trying to get revenge on Darkman, it would be somewhat like the original movie reversed. There would be a big fight between DM and Durant. Durant's goons would knock DM out. Durant would have his mask removed and realize he deserved what happened to him. Darkman would wake up and kill the goons and then a very apologetic Durant.
