if we were to pretend there wasn't a continuity error in the sequels (Neeson's recasting)...then that would mean...Darkman finally snapped completely and starts thinking he is british....and is overly fond of another man's face which he often wears.

LOL, to me it is just about separate universes/continuities.

LOL, to me it is just about separate universes/continuities. that is a possibility. but if continuity errors make new continuities then the first movie itself leaves the original timeline a few times. like when Julie is falling. impossible to get caught on those beams. in between shots SOMETHING happened to make that possible .
