Did anyone else notice that Durant is trying so hard to get nuclear power sources for his laser guns (because that's te only way go feed it the incredible amunt of power it needs), but the laser in the scientist's lab runs off a wall plug?

Who knows. Maybe the experimental laser gun system needs a conventional electric imput or whatsoever, just in order to start the whole process. Call it a small "boast".

prehaps, but the 2 sequels, though had many strong scenes, did have many loop holes and got on my nerves alot. I think some of the essence of the original character was lost.

The lazer in the scientist's lab wasn't anywhere near as powerful as the cannon Durant wanted to build. Something that powerful needed nuclear batteries, not an AC/DC plug.
